Como Heritage Interpretation Strategy Case Study from Sydney Heritage Consultants
Chantal worked as heritage Sub-Consultant for Australian Museum Business Services (AMBS) to prepare a Heritage Interpretation Strategy Report, Interpretative Signage, Como Heritage Trail Map and Brochure for the Como Heritage Trail for Sutherland Shire Council.
The Interpretation Strategy for the Como Heritage Trail focuses on opportunities to explain and promote the history and cultural significance of an identified circuit around Como.
The aim of this Heritage Interpretation is to provide the relevant information for the production of:
- The Como Heritage Trail Map – provide data for graphic designer to prepare map
- The Como Heritage Trail Brochure(s) – provide data for graphic designer to prepare map
- The Como Heritage Trail interpretative signage – five signs required detailing specific information placed at various locations on the Trail – provide data for graphic designer to prepare map.
The overarching aim of the Como Heritage Trail was to enhance the visitor experience with stories and images with an ability to excite an interest in the history of the local area.
The primary objective of the interpretation plan was to provide an insight into the changing nature of the place of Como; the stories that illustrate its development from the pre-contact environment, its development as a holiday and picnic destination and the introduction of infrastructure.
